The White House | Washington, DC Photographer

I was walking back to the Metro after a shoot in Washington, DC and I decided to grab a cup of coffee and sit down in Lafayette Park and just watch people as they came by the White House.  Sometimes you need to take a moment and, as they say, smell the flowers.

Photoshop World - Washington, DC | Washington DC Photographer

I attended Photoshop World for the first time this past week.  It was held in Washington, DC for the first time, and so I decided to check it out.  I went mainly for the photography sessions.  It was great listening and watching some of the best photographers in the world such as Dave Black, Cliff Mautner, Jay Maisel, and Joe McNally.  Most attendees were carrying these huge camera bags loaded with their professional DSLR cameras.  I was a bit lazy and only took my Canon S100 point and shoot camera which can fit in my pant pocket.  Here are a few photos from my three days at the conference.

Vienna, VA Photographs

I think every photographer should have a little pet project that they do on the side beyond their normal client photography.  I take a lot of photographs of my family, but I wanted to have another personal photo project beyond my family.  After taking a few photos in Vienna, VA after a recent snow storm, I got the idea of taking photographs of my home town, Vienna, VA throughout the year.  It is a very interesting town, I go into town almost everyday, so it is convenient, and it is probably an area that hasn't been that photographed, unlike neighboring Washington, DC.

LAHEY LOST VALLEY PARK is about a half block from my house. The woman who used to own the land that my house is on donated a large piece of wooded land to Fairfax County after she died.  Other than the house that she used to live in, the park is full of trees and a small creek.  This park is pretty much un-kept.  If it wasn't for the local residents that walk through the park, there wouldn't be any paths.  So one day, at  around noon, I took my dog for a walk with camera (Nikon D7000 with Nikon 35MM F1.8 lens) in hand. The shot below was okay in color, but I  took it into Photoshop and ran it through Nik SilverEfex Pro and 30 seconds later I had a much more interesting photograph.

Snow Storm Photography

We had a small snow storm last week in the Washington, DC area.  Even though only about 6 to 8 inches of snow fell, it brought this area to a stand still because of the downed power lines and ice.  I was getting my car tire fixed at Billy Weber Tire in Vienna, VA and I decided to just wait for them to fix it.  So instead of just sitting in their little waiting room, I decided to bring my Nikon D7000 and Nikon 35MM lens and take a few photographs of the snow and the surrounding area in Vienna, VA.

There is a beautiful mural and Vienna's caboose on Church Street alongside the W&OD Trail.  Down the road from that is the view from Church Street looking down towards Vienna Presbyterian Church.

Spoden Family Vacation in Southern California

My family and I went to Southern California this summer for our vacation.  We stayed in the Santa Monica area, just a few blocks from the beach.  The weather was surprisingly cool and pleasant,  around 75 degrees every day.  We hit the beach, Disneyland, Universal Studios, and The Getty Center. The Getty Center in Los Angeles presents the Getty's collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present against a backdrop of dramatic architecture, tranquil gardens, and breathtaking views.  My wife and two older daughters got to fly on a trapeze on the Santa Monica Pier, something my wife always wanted to do. Will also hit Rodeo Drive and did a little (very little) shopping.

I tried not to go overboard with the photography.  I took by Nikon D90 with a 50MM F1.4 lens and my little Panasonic S90 point and shoot camera.
