When taking environmental photographs I try use the client's office / work environment to tell something about what they do for a living, or use architectural elements of their work environment to add to the interest of the photograph. In two of the photographs below I used the dental office lights and equipment to enhance the photographs that I took at a local dental office. In the case of office professionals we used their lobby's lights and lines to give some interest to the photographs.
I never tire of the classic executive portrait with a grey background, simple lighting, classic pose, and a great expression. Whether it is in black and white or color, whether it is a tight head-shot or full length, the look is always simple and classic.
The environmental photo below was shot at a local office building in Reston, VA. My client is starting a new law practice with a partner in Boston. They wanted very similar environmental backgrounds, so we picked an office building in Reston, VA and did the photo shoot. His partner in Boston is going to hire a photographer and use my client's photo as a model to do his environmental photograph in Boston.
The other executive portrait was done at my studio. A very sharp looking female executive portrait!
One of my clients decided to hold their Holiday Party in January to avoid all the conflicts and cost of trying to put on the same event in December when everyone else is trying to hold their party. I photographed the event which was at the Hyatt Hotel in Reston, VA.
They did a great job organizing the event. The food was great, they gave away great prizes, the DJ kept the dance floor going, and to top it off they had a casino night which was a big hit.

I received a call from Steve Lasko from Lasko Design + Consulting in Reston, VA. Being a designer, Steve had very definite ideas of how he wanted his executive portraits to look. He wanted a number of portraits so that the images could be used, not only for his website, but for other articles and speaking engagements. So I tethered my camera to my laptop so Steve could see in real time what it is we were capturing. We had fun experimenting with a lot of different compositions and lighting. Within 30 minutes or so we had what we wanted!

I have a number of clients that are in need of a photographer to take a professional photograph of them for their business. Most of them are looking for the conventional head and shoulders executive head-shot / portrait. If they have a few extra minutes I like to take a variety of photographs of them to give them options for future use.
Clients appreciate having a number of different photographs of themselves so they don't keep using the same photo for different occasions. Frequently they are asked to provide photographs for speaking engagements, articles they may have written, etc. and it is nice to have some professionally taken photographs at their disposal.
Last week I photographed an executive who needed just a single head-shot. We were having a good time we took about 15 minutes and we took a few more photographs that he can now use for future needs.
