I was happy to see a photograph that I took at the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute last February was used as the cover photograph for the IDEA Fitness Journal in October, 2017. Over a dozen other photographs that I took at the Las Vegas IDEA World Convention were also on display in the magazine!
I believe this is the seventh year that I have photographed the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute that is held every year in the Washington, DC area.
Personal trainers, fitness professionals, owners and managers: learn what it takes to truly take their business and training skills to new heights. IDEA Personal Trainer Institute is where industry leaders show how they secure client and business success. From fitness assessment and program design to social media marketing and staff management.
This year it was held at the Marriott Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. It was nice to photograph the event in a new facility.
We setup a small studio in one of the hotel conference rooms every year to produce images that we hope will end up on the cover of next year's brochure and also to to be used for other marketing purposes. Most of the time during the two days that I am photographing the event I am in live sessions capturing the action as it happens.
Another great year at the 2016 IDEA World Personal Trainer Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This was my sixth IDEA World conference to photograph. Next year will be their 35th anniversary and they will be holding the conference in Las Vegas. That should be exciting to photograph.
This years conference included presentations / workouts from Todd Durkin, Jack Canfield, Cassey Ho, and Jillian Michaels.
Photographing this event is more like covering a sporting event like track and field, football, or basketball. You always have to anticipate where the action is going to occur and take the photograph a split second before it happens.

This past February, I had the pleasure of photographing the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute in Alexandria, VA for the fifth time. Personal trainers, training managers and entrepreneurs descend upon this event to learn from the industry's top instructors so that they can gain inspiration, insights and the purpose necessary for a fulfilling and financially rewarding career.
As you can see from the photographs below, this event is filled with action, intensity, fun, and learning.
I had the pleasure to photograph the IDEA World Fitness Convention in Anaheim, CA this past August. This is the fourth World Fitness Convention that I have photographed for IDEA, and the eighth event overall. IDEA holds a smaller event in the Washington, DC area every year in February and I photograph that as well.
The IDEA World Fitness Convention is the premier fitness conference that features a diverse educational programming from world-renowned presenters. There was over 330 sessions in personal training, sports conditioning, group training, nutrition, business, and marketing.
Some of this year's guest speakers included world record-setting swimmer Diana Nyad, Jillian Michaels (formally on NBC's The Biggest Loser), Tara Stiles, the founder and owner of the Strala yoga program, and other regular presenters such as Todd Durkin, Tony Horton, and Chalene Johnson.
You can view/buy photographs from the conference by going to the IDEA World 2014 album on my website.
IDEA Personal Trainer Institute is a diverse and cutting-edge educational program / conference exclusively for personal trainers. They held it this year at the Hilton in Alexandria, VA. This is the third IDEA conference that I have photographed, and there is never a dull moment.
There are a number of classroom setting sessions, but the majority of the sessions are very interactive and are lead by some of the top training instructors in the world such as Todd Durkin who trains professional athletes like Aaron Rogers (QB of the Green Bay Packers) and Drew Brees (QB of the New Orleans Saints). We also setup a little studio onsite and bring in some of the attendees to demonstrate various exercises and routines.
