BACKGROUND: This is my beauvetorie – a room that once captured the spirit of my hometown of New Orleans. With tall ceilings, an exposed red brick walls, hardwood floors that brought the sounds of Jazz music to life, this room was my home away from home. It where I kick back and get my groove on. But, the room is empty. Most of the contents – rocking chair, lamps, end tables and even the rug have all been sent home to help those still struggling to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. I don’t miss the contents of this room, just the spirit of my hometown.
